I came across bikefurniture.com a while earlier in the semester and only until recent realization did I notice how it applied to the thematic direction of my design thesis. American society prefers the disposable product and the convenience that items such as paper plates, napkins, and eating utensils provide. The immediate disregard for the expended is the root of our “throw-away” culture. Because I want to focus on modulation, but in direct accord with sustainability and reinventing the “disposable,” the bike furniture sculptures are similar to that concept. The sculptures conform to bicycle parts as modulation, but allowing for the beauty of each piece to ensure the appeal of the product.
