What fascinates me about art and specifically design is that it has the potential to invite the viewer to engage with something familiar, whether conceptual or physical, while rendering it completely differently. Practical innovation comes from understanding the elements and tools available and recombining existing ideas, technologies and experiences to advance forward. Often the most interesting dialogues form from the innate human interest in the unknown, yet more interesting are the ones that question the known and ultimately revert the subject matter back to the fresh mystery of the unfamiliar.
As an emerging designer, I have dabbled with various concepts, some examples being information modulation, reconstructions of time, over-simplification, and narrative deconstruction. I thrive on the feeling of recreating something with a new perspective, function or simply form.
My recent research has provoked me to explore the role of design in sustainability. The Green Movement is not yet universally understood and is occasionally spread as an agenda for consumerism rather than a sound initiative for a new sustainable culture. I will explore the dialogue between production and consumption, people and the environment and design and commerce.
